Apple kills Dark Sky weather app!
Apple acquired Dark Sky in March 2020 and has since incorporated many of the app's features into the preinstalled Weather app on the iPhone. This includes hyperlocal weather forecasts, hourly forecasts for the next 10 days, down-to-the-minute precipitation forecasts, high-resolution weather maps, severe weather alerts with notifications, and more.
By applying artificial intelligence to radar data from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, Dark Sky could tell you exactly when it would start raining or snowing in your area. This has been integrated into Apple Weather, along with high-resolution radar maps and accurate forecasts for the next hour.
The Weather app also has notifications so you can stay up-to-date on the latest weather conditions. It also has a Clear Calling feature which enhances the caller's voice and reduces background noise, as well as a module for checking security and privacy all in one place.
In addition to the features mentioned above, the Weather app has an hourly graph view that allows you to visualize the temperature range and weather conditions on an hourly basis. It also has a UV Index module which shows you the UV estimates for the day, as well as wind, precipitation, humidity, visibility, and pressure modules.
The Weather app also includes information on first light, sunrise sunset, last light, and total daylight, along with monthly sunrise and sunset averages. There is also a rain chart with 10-minute intervals so you can see when to expect rain.
Finally, the Weather app has severe weather alerts for select regions. It also has the same precipitation, temperature, and air quality maps as before, but with some slight design, and updates to refine the look.
Overall, Apple has been able to successfully integrate many Dark Sky features into its Weather app, giving users access to a powerful and accurate weather forecasting tool.
